Carpet and Ground Beetle Removal in Toronto

Carpet Beetles

Carpet Beetles

An adult varied carpet beetle is 2mm to 3mm in length, and the body is mostly black in the center with brownish, white or yellowish scales. Carpet beetles can fly, and can enter homes through attic vents and eaves troughs. Carpet beetles feed on a number of animal and plant products, including wool, skins, furs, stuffed animals, hair, silk, and in insect nests. Carpet beetles can start in the attic by feeding on dead insects (typically in older homes) and will move into the home looking for a new food source.

Treatment

The first step is for the customer to eliminate any items that the carpet beetles have eaten, for example a stuffed animal, wool sweater, etc. ICE Inc. will then treat the attic with a static-electrifying machine that blows out a dust. This dust will affix itself to the walls and the beams in the attic. This dusting system eliminates any beetles nesting in the attic. The second part of the treatment is a full crack and crevice spray of all baseboards. This treatment is completely harmless once dried (about four hours). We will then do a fan spray on all carpets in the home.

Requirements

For the treatment, anyone under the age of six and pregnant women must be out for 24 hours, and anyone else (including pets) needs to be out for 4 hours.

Ground Beetles

Ground Beetles

Ground beetles are nocturnal insects (active at night), and are usually a black colour. However, their colour can enhance to a blue, green, purple or reddish colour. Ground beetles are said to be very helpful to the agricultural system because they feed on other insects that can be harmful. These insects range in size from 1/16 of an inch to 1 and 3/8 of an inch.
